FIELD: physics, communications.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication. The technical result is a shorter cell search time and high accuracy of signal detection. The cell search procedure is modified to enable a user terminal to determine if a detected signal emanates from a known cell or from a new cell having the same cell identifier as the known cell. Upon detecting a signal, the user terminal determines the cell identifier and synchronisation of the detected signal. If the cell identifier matches the known cell and synchronisation is outside the synchronisation window of the known cell, the user terminal compares the detected signal with the corresponding received signal, which is received from the known cell having the same cell identifier as the source of the detected signal.
EFFECT: user terminal determines whether a detected signal emanates from a known cell or from a new cell based on comparison.
