FIELD: information technologies.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication systems for determination of operation availability of carriers, carrier selection and/or determination of time-point when to initiate service handover (SH) from one associated point of network connection, for example from one carrier, to another point with another carrier. Methods for frequency selection and SH initiating in wireless communication system applying multiple carrier frequencies are described. Notwithstanding that receiver (R) is tuned to single band, decision about selection of carrier and SH is made on the basis of relative energy (E) of one or more beacon signal (BS) components corresponding to currently used carrier, and one or more BC components corresponding to alternative carrier. Mobile nodes can use single RF-path with adjustable RF-filter for signal receiving and processing within the first selected carrier band including components from different transmitters, for example the first component of signal identified by the first currently selected band, and the second component of signal identified by the second alternative band. Signal components, for example BS components from different transmitters can be obtained from signal which corresponds to multiple time periods of character transmission. Individual measurements of signals E are made for the first and the second components of signals. E of signal components is compared and decision concerning necessity of SH initiating is made.

EFFECT: improvement of receiver operation efficiency.
