AMPOULE IRRADIATING DEVICE Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC G21C17/00

Abstract RU 2515516 C1

FIELD: physics, atomic power.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering and more specifically to irradiating devices and fuel assemblies for reactor tests of fuel samples, as well as model fuel cells in a research reactor, and can be used in designing and verification of fuel cell structures for power reactors. The apparatus has a gas channel and a gas-filled capsule having a shell which is hermetically connected to end elements. A fuel sample in form of a column of tablets in a non-hermetic thin-wall shell of high-plasticity heat-resistant material is placed in the capsule with a radial gap, as well as temperature sensors and a compensation volume. One of the sensors is placed in the end fuel tablet and another is placed at the opposite side of the fuel sample outside the core. The gap between the thin-wall shell and the fuel sample is not greater than the difference between values of radial thermal expansion thereof, and the gap between shells of the capsule and the fuel sample is selected in the range of possible values of the radial gap between the shell and the fuel core of the standard fuel cell.

EFFECT: said design of the ampoule irradiating device enables to investigate the rate of free swelling and kinetics of the output of gaseous fission products from fuel with the possibility of determination of temperature thereof and temperature dependency of investigated processes at high power densities typical for a fast reactor.
