FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of locating a source of magnetic field of a dipole model. The method comprises simultaneously measuring the increment of magnetic field induction between a reference point and a point on each semi-axis of a coordinate system and measuring the distance between the points. The unknown radius vector to the source and its magnetic moment are determined from the measurement results. The reference point is superimposed with the centre of the coordinate system. The size of the base of each increment is increased to a structurally suitable limit, wherein all unknown values are determined numerically without recourse to gradient measurements.

EFFECT: high accuracy and range of locating a magnetic field source.
