FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: six sensors at one end of a bar are used to measure increments in magnetic field induction relative a reference sensor at the other end of the bar. These increments are used to determine the gradient of the induction vector at the centre of the coordinate system of the bar and the vector of induction increment between the centre and the reference sensor. The combination of the gradient and increment are then used to locate the magnetic source and find the distance to the source.
EFFECT: high stability and reliability of location, which enables to localise a magnetic source during motion.
