FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: patient is presented with optotypes, a size of which is changed in high increments within the wide dynamic range. The optotypes orientation is periodically varied or these are changed by the others of the same size. Visual acuity is determined by calculating an angle whereat the optotype of a minimally recognisable size is visible; the visual acuity values are recorded and stored. The procedure is repeated more than once. An average value and a relative standard deviation are determined. If the deviation exceeds 5%, an inadequate accuracy of the measurement results is stated, and elimination of the patient's simulation is considered to be needed by repeated tests.
EFFECT: method provides higher accuracy of determining visual acuity that is ensured by measuring the standard deviation which if exceeded provides the result considered to be inadequate.
