VIDEO CONFERENCE RATE MATCHING Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC H04N7/15

Abstract RU 2524359 C2

FIELD: physics, computer engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video conferences and specifically to matching video streaming rates between clients. The method comprises receiving a plurality of data streams, each having a distinct video resolution from each of transmitting clients and analysing characteristics of receiving clients. After analysis, one of the plurality of data streams is selected from each of the transmitting clients and transmitted to a receiving client. Said operations are performed by a video conferencing server which receives source video streams from clients in a video conference, which analyses characteristics of each client and which selects a video stream to transmit to each client based on said characteristics. For example, a client that allows coding and decoding of a high-definition video stream can provide three source video streams: high-definition, medium- and low-resolution. The server may send to a client with low available bandwidth only a low-resolution stream, to another client with available bandwidth for a high-definition stream, but without the capacity for decoding thereof, a medium-resolution stream.

EFFECT: high efficiency of video conferencing by selecting, for transmission, a video stream whose characteristics match capabilities of the receiving client.
