FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to solve navigation tasks and detection of ground-based objects by aircraft on-board systems. When an on-board radar system of an aircraft scans surrounding space, the earth's surface is canned by the radar system to determine the height of terrain features at multiple points either simultaneously or at successive moments in time, after which information on distance to points on the surface or rate of change thereof along with information on the angle of roll from a roll gyroscope is transmitted to the correlator of an information processing device, where it is compared with information from the storage unit of electronic maps of the area, as a result of which coordinates of the scanned points on the surface are determined, from which aircraft coordinates are calculated either using a difference-range measurement method or a radial-velocity method.
EFFECT: broader functional capabilities and high reliability.
