SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication engineering and can be used in circuits for receiving broadcast/multicast signals of a mobile terminal. A method for controlling a radio receiver (21) of a mobile terminal (UE1, UE2) of a telecommunication network, wherein the telecommunication network sends a signal within a signal frame (FR, FR1, FR2) to be received by a plurality of mobile terminals (UE1, UE2), the signal comprising encoded digital content, comprising determining signal quality of said signal, determining a reception time period (tr, tr1 , tr2) for the radio receiver (21), wherein the reception time period is selected such that it ends before the end of the signal frame and/or begins after the beginning of the signal frame, depending on signal quality, and controlling the radio receiver according to the reception time period for receiving said signal.
EFFECT: low power consumption of a mobile terminal, especially when receiving cellular broadcast services in standby mode.
