FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of treating zirconium dioxide-based material. The method includes reacting, at a reaction step (18) decomposed zircon ZrO2·SiO2 (16) with ammonium bifluoride NH4F·HF (20) in accordance with the reaction equation 1.1: ZrO2 ·SiO2 + NH4F·HF → (NH4)3ZrF7 + (NH4)2SiF6 + H2O 1.1, to obtain (NH4)3ZrF7 and (NH4)2SiF6 as reaction products (22).
EFFECT: invention provides an anhydrous process of enriching zirconium-containing materials to obtain anhydrous ZrF4, which is the preferred precursor for a plurality of applications unlike hydrous ZrF4·H2O.
