SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric measurement equipment. The invention concept is as follows: measurement is carried out at the moment of short circuit of phase currents and voltages of the main harmonic at the start and end of the line, positive-sequence current of normal mode, preceding the short circuit, at the start of the line and end of the line. Information is sent on phase currents of the line start from the start of the line to the end of the line. Information is sent on phase currents of the line end from the end of the line to the start of the line by means of communication channels. Symmetrical components of phase positive, negative and zero sequence currents are defined at each end of the line. Symmetrical components of phase positive, negative and zero sequence voltages are defined at each end of the line. Using the table, depending on the type of short circuit, they determine the current in the area of short circuit I · S , the values of rated currents and voltages U . ' , I . ' , U ' . ' , I . ' ' . Using the produced voltages, they calculate the distance from the start of the line to the area of the damage (for the device in the start of the line), the distance from the end of the line to the area of damage (for the device in the end of the line).

EFFECT: increased accuracy of detection of a damage area during transfer of minimum data volume from one end of the line to the other end (only vectors of phase currents) without use of iteration process.
