SUBSTANCE: method comprises combing fibre mass, forming a pile of given weight, size and shape and placing the pile between radiating and receiving acoustic sensors, calculating the frequency of the radiated acoustic vibrations which provide the effective fibre thinness reading which is equal to or less than the physical thinness thereof, combing the pile while measuring the value of the acoustic signal, mutually perpendicular, normal to the direction of propagation of acoustic vibrations, compressing the pile to obtain a minimum, given value of the acoustic signal, and the average fibre thinness value is determined from the value of apparent density of the compressed pile.
EFFECT: high accuracy, objectivity and rapidness of inspecting average fibre thinness.
