SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication. The method utilises a message containing a Suspend/Resume indicator, sent to a local anchor node by an external agent which supports downlink message transmission to a mobile node. A connection changeability reporting option is proposed for creating a transient BCE state at the home agent/local anchor node during an inter-access gateway (MAG) transmission, which will suspend downlink traffic from the home agent/local anchor node until the transient BCE (suspend) state is cleared by the external agent previously supporting downlink message transmission. After the transient BCE (suspend) state is cleared, the downlink traffic from the home agent/local anchor node can resume by forwarding downlink traffic to the mobile node through the external agent.
EFFECT: optimising resource usage in a network when performing handover when a mobile node switches from one type of access to another.
