FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: result is achieved owing to a network abstraction gateway which comprises: an abstracted network interface (AN-I) for connectivity with an abstracted network (AN) wherein a user has an abstracted endpoint (AE) having a first identity in the AN; a communication system interface (CS-I) for connectivity with a user's communication system (CS), which provides an abstracted endpoint operating mode via a second identity in the CS. The gateway also includes a means (REG) adapted for registering a one-to-one relationship between the first identity and the second identity; a means of extracting the operating mode of the AE, comprising communication features and/or states of the AE; and endpoint abstraction means (AM) adapted for abstracting the AE in the CS via an endpoint abstraction (EA) using the second identity. The EA responds to the operating mode of the AE, and the AM is adapted to implement at least one feature and/or state of the CS and to bi-directionally map the operating mode of the AE with features and/or states of the CS via a protocol supported by the CS.
EFFECT: enabling abstraction of all calls originating from an abstracted endpoint or destined thereto, as if said calls are originating from or destined to a telephone or endpoint in the user's communication system.
