FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and apparatus for improving a wide field of vision when obtaining CT images. The method employs two scanning procedures: with a centred radiation source and a detector and in a biased geometry. Image formation data received from both scanning procedures are used during image reconstruction. Furthermore, the invention provides a method and an apparatus for detecting motion in a reconstructed image by generating a motion map indicating regions on the reconstructed image on which motion artefacts are active. The motion map can be used to estimate motion and/or compensate motion in order to eliminate or reduce motion artefacts in the obtained reconstructed image.
EFFECT: use of the invention enables to reduce motion artefacts and widen the field of vision.
