FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation and specifically to systems for determining the position of an object without using reflection or secondary radiation and can be used for automatic control of lateral movement of vehicles or warning drivers on violation of traffic within their lane. The method includes measuring, by a computer vision system, coordinates of two points at like corners of a dotted road marking and one optically contrasting point not lying on the dotted road marking, selected in the image field of the road. The lateral deviation of the vehicle from the dotted road marking and the angle of deviation of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle from the dotted road marking are then calculated.
EFFECT: more stable movement.
