FIELD: physics, atomic power.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering, particularly storages of solidified radioactive wastes, and can be used at nuclear power stations and solidified radioactive waste processing facilities for temporary storage of the wastes before disposal. The method for temporary storage of radioactive wastes includes forming packaging with asymmetric loading, filling the free space with a buffer backfill, placing containers with maximum gamma dose rate in the inner rows of the storage and containers with minimum gamma dose rate in the peripheral rows such that faces with high gamma dose rate face the centre and faces with minimum gamma dose are turned towards the wall of the storage.
EFFECT: simple and cheap temporary storage of solidified radioactive wastes while fully observing restrictions on the gamma dose rate on the territory neighbouring the storage, without the need to build main walls owing to use the self-shielding property of the radiation packaging.
