FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: in the disclosed method, radioactive iodine is trapped on a sorbent - technical carbon, which is formed from burning organic materials (tyres, tar, black oil etc) and a smoky flame at the centre of an accident. The technical carbon which has sorbed radioactive iodine from gas emissions is the sprayed with atomised water. The technical carbon is deposited on a territory adjoining the centre of the accident.
EFFECT: high efficiency of localising volatile forms of radioactive iodine from gas emissions.
