FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Proposed process comprises making of rail billet (5) including foot (2), head (3) and web (4) connecting said foot with said head. It includes also the finish rolling to produce steel rail (6). Optimized reduction of billet different sections and decreased rail ends temperature drop effects are ensured by rolling at multiple-stand continuous tandem finishing mill including at least three four-roll universal stands (U1-U3) and at least two two-roll edger stands (E1, E2). Note here that universal stands comprises vertical toll for form the rail bottom section (2a) and vertical roll to form rail head section (3a), and two shaped rolls to form rail sides (6a, 6b), particularly, rail web sections (4a, 4b). Note here that rail billet is fed through finishing mill one time only. Note here that at least vertical rolls of all universal stands for forming of foot bottom section (2a) are smooth. Note that at least one universal mill comprises smooth vertical roll to form rail hear section (3a). Invention relates also to device to this end and rail thus made.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of rolling.
