FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of calibrating a liquid argon-based cryogenic particle detector includes determining the coefficient of proportionality between energy of the detected particle and amplitude of the signal of the cryogenic detector, wherein the calibration factor is determined using a recoil nucleus with known energy, arising from small-angle inelastic scattering of monoenergetic neutrons on argon nuclei. To carry out the calibration method, a neutron source, a cryogenic detector and a scattered neutron detector are arranged such that the geometric centre of the target of the neutron source, the geometric centre of the cryogenic detector and the axis of symmetry of the scintillator of the scattered neutron detector lie on one line.
EFFECT: high rate of gathering statistics with a certain calibration accuracy.
