FIELD: nuclear physics; medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technetium-99m radionuclide production technology, in particular for nuclear medicine. Method comprises making a target of finely dispersed low-solubility particles based on a long-living radionuclide technetium-99 or compounds thereof, surrounded by a buffer material in form of a solid substance, soluble in water or other solvents, irradiating a target in a fast neutron stream, accumulating in the target material a technetium-99m radionuclide formed as a result of an inelastic scattering reaction on technetium-99 nuclei, separating, by dissolving in water or other solvents, a buffer material containing accumulated technetium-99m, extraction of target radionuclide from obtained solution, return of undissolved finely dispersed target material for production of new target and subsequent irradiation.
EFFECT: simple technology of producing technetium-99m, particularly for large-scale production of technetium-99m, broader list of potential suppliers of the target radionuclide due to possibility of using the method on various sources of fast neutrons, including research and commercial nuclear reactors, as well as charged particle accelerators.
