SUBSTANCE: invention is related to electric engineering, In particular to relay protection, and is intended for implementation in devices used for damaged point determination in the branched power transmission line. The invention concept is as follows: at the beginning of the power transmission line and at the end of each branch current and voltage control devices are installed, and their number is bigger per one unit than the number of branches under control. The passage time of phase voltage surge is recorded by all devices simultaneously in the unified time scale synchronised against GPS satellite signals. Then the recorded time values are transmitted to the control centre for the purpose of their processing. For the recorded time values the damaged branch is determined from each pair of the current and voltage control devices by difference ranging method. While determining the damaged point the recorded time values of pulse receipt at the ends of transmission line branches and length of branches and distance between beginnings of branches are used.
