SUBSTANCE: at the beginning of a power transmission line and at the end of each branch voltage control devices are installed and their number is bigger by one unit than the number of branches under control. Time of the pulse leading edge is recorded. The phase voltage surge is used as pulses. The passage time of the phase voltage surge is recorded by all devices simultaneously in the unified time scale synchronised against the GPS satellite signals. Then the recorded time values are transmitted to the control centre for the purpose of their processing. There the damaged branch is detected for each pair of the voltage control devices by a difference ranging method for the recorded time values by each pair of the devices with one device located in the damaged branch. The difference ranging method is used for determination of a distance up to the damaged point at the damaged branch, and distance estimates are specified on the basis of the set of equations for determination of the damaged point.
EFFECT: increase in accuracy of the damaged point determination in the branched power transmission line.
