METHOD FOR IMPROVING VISUAL FUNCTIONS IN HIGH-DEGREE REFRACTIVE AMBLYOPIA Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC A61F9/00 A61N1/32

Abstract RU 2533048 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves performing a cognitive modulation of visual acuity and an indirect percutaneous electrical stimulation. The cognitive modulation of visual acuity accompanies the optimal optical correction in the activation or relaxation mode generated by the Amblyotron hardware and software complex from a monocular access. That is combined with the alternative action of each eye for 15-20 minutes with the paired eye occluded. The electrical stimulation is generated by the ESOM microprocessor device. That involves using electrical current of 120-300 mcA, frequency of 15 to 30 Hz. The patient is exposed to a rectangular negative electrical pulse train. The exposure is preceded by the preliminary 3-minute adaptation of the patient in the mesotopic environment at 10-15 lux with the patient's eyes closed. An indifferent electrode is attached to a left finger or hand. An active electrode is alternatively applied to an upper eyelid. The exposure involves two 5-7-minute cycles. The exposure follows the sequence: an outer one-third of the right eye - an outer one-third of the left eye - an inner one-third of the right eye - an inner one-third of the left eye - a middle one-third of the right eye - a middle one-third of the left eye. The exposure is daily for 15 days.

EFFECT: improved visual acuity and stabilising it for 6-12 months by re-establishment of the retinal-cortical connections by activating neurons of the cortical visual centres.
