SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication. Downlink power is set for transmitting signals from a base station of a cellular communication network comprising a group of said base stations. A target value is set for signal strength at which transmitted signals are to be received, as well as a target value for losses in the transmission channel based on measured loss values in the transmission channel between base stations of the group. Downlink power is calculated based on the target value for signal strength and the target value for losses in the transmission channel.

EFFECT: ensuring acceptable signal quality on all of the required coverage area.
