SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wood chips drying unit with a furnace and to the production of a wood chip board. The wood chips drying unit (18) with the furnace (12) includes a dryer (16) for the wood chips (18) and a return device (56) for return of a steam-and-air mixture (34) to the dryer (16); with that, the return device (56) includes a steam-and-air heater (42), and the wood chips drying unit (10) provides the simultaneous reduction of organic compounds contained in the steam-and-air mixture (34) before it is returned to the dryer (16). The heater (42) includes a regenerative and/or catalytic heat exchanger installed after the dryer (16) and designed for heating of the steam-and-air mixture (34) to the temperature that is so high that at least a bigger part of particles present in the steam-and-air mixture (34) can be oxidised.

EFFECT: in the invention, as a result of the oxidation of hydrocarbons and solid combustibles present in the steam-and-air mixture by means of a thermal regenerative heat exchange system, there is an increase of the absorption ability of hot gases supplied to the dryer relative to leaving resins and terpens, as well as in pipelines directing the hot gases between the thermal regenerative unit and the dryer inlet there abruptly decreased is dirt collection.
