FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: light-emitting diode (LED) comprises a light-emitting crystal coated with an optical element, the outer surface of which is spherical and is light-outputting, and the optical element used is a polyesteracrylate-type polymer in which residual monomer content is not more than 0.01 pts.wt. Also disclosed is a method of making said LED, which includes mounting a crystal on a base which is covered by an optical element. The light-outputting outer surface is formed by pouring a certain volume of a polymer matrix into a mould, dimensions of which correspond to the required shape of the light-outputting surface. The pouring is carried out in at least two steps, the first step comprising pouring a portion of the polymer matrix whose volume is sufficient to form the light-outputting surface. Oxygen is then removed from free volume of the mould and until the end of polymerisation of the surface layer, said layer is covered with the remaining portion of the polymer matrix, during polymerisation of which the base with the crystal is installed therein. Polymerisation of different parts of the polymer matrix is carried out in identical external conditions.
EFFECT: obtaining high-precision parameters of a LED by providing uniformity of the optical element and high quality of purity and accuracy of the shape and dimensions of the light-outputting surface.
