FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communications. The technical result is achieved by introducing an additional reference signal that can be detected with low sensitivity and low signal/noise ratio by repeated usage of frequency for the signals involved in measuring difference of arrival (TDOA), for example, of orthogonal property of the signals from base station in service and other base station in the neighbourhood. This new reference signal, called TDOA-RS, is proposed to increase readability of neighbouring base stations in a cellular network deployed in 3GPP EU-TRAN (LTE) system. The TDOA-RS signal can be transmitted in any resource blocks (RB) of POSCH and/or MBSFN subframes irrespectively to that whether the latter is at carrier supporting both PMCH and POSCH, or not. An additional synchronisation signal (TDOA-sync) can also be introduced.
EFFECT: adjacent cell readability is improved, when user equipment is situated near to the base station in service.
