SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication systems. Versions of this invention describe a method and a device for determining a terminal mobility state, which are suitable for accurate assessment of terminal mobility state in a complex network structure, which provide adjustment of the most suitable terminal network parameters optimising terminal mobility performance and improving overall network capacity, which means a technical result. A method for determining terminal mobility state, which is proposed by versions of this invention, involves the following: calculation of total distance passed by the terminal for the specified time interval using a distance assessment strategy; and determination of terminal mobility degree based on total passed distance.

EFFECT: invention is applicable for assessment of terminal mobility state in a homogenous network and a heterogeneous network.
