FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: alternating-current source is connected to a power supply cable. Intensity of the magnet field is measured, at that measurements are made at the ground surface and at height at the beginning and ending of the cable section selected for measurements with a length L. The depth of the cable layout is calculated for the beginning and ending of the cable section. Conductivity for the surveyed cable section is defined. The obtained value of the insulation conductivity Y is compared with conductivity of the undamaged cable Yun, the ratio Y>Yun proves an availability of a damage of the power supply cable at the surveyed section. Then the section is divided into two parts, the measurements are repeated, conductivity values are repeated for the first Y1 and second Y2 parts of the section. When Y1>Yun, the damage is placed in the first part of the cable section; when Y2>Yun then the damage is in the second part. The process is repeated further till the preset (required) length of the damaged power cable section is surveyed.
EFFECT: reduced costs of labour intensity and time.
