PRODUCTION OF HEXAGONAL PIPE BILLETS FOR COMPACT STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION OF USED NUCLEAR FUEL WITH BORON CONTENT OF 1,3-3,5% Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC B21B21/00

FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly to production of hexagonal pipes-billets. Hollow ESR ingots are cast to 515±5×ID320±5×2750±50 mm size, bored and turned to remove blisters and traces of flux to hollow ingots-billets sized to 500±2×ID330±2×2750±50 mm with surface smoothness RZ≤40 mcm. Hollow ingots-billets are heated to 1080-1100°C and rolled at Pilger mill at 303/304 mm diameter mandrels with rolling-out µ of 9.0-9.2 to rerolled hot-rolled pipes sized to 325×12×224000-23300 mm. The latter are cut by hot cutting saw to rerolled hot-rolled pipes sized to 325×12×7450-7750 mm. They are bored and turned at the plant with tracker to rerolled pipes sized to 321×8×7450-7750 mm with surface smoothness Rz≤30 mcm. Left emissivity is removed by grinding from outer surface and pipes are rerolled at CPR 450 mill to rerolled cold-rolled 284.8×6×10500-11000 mm-pipes. The latter are cut to 284.8×6×5250-5500 mm-pipes-billets and shaped to 257+2/-3×6+2/-1×4300+80/-30 mm hexagonal pipes-billets.

EFFECT: lower metal input, decreased amount of rejects, lower costs.
