FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to surface heat treatment of steel and iron, particularly, to surface hardening with the help of electric arc. To up wear resistance of machine part and various cutting tool, article is heated by AC square-pulse electric arc. Note here that arc heat input is adjusted by varying the current strength or frequency in current positive and negative half-waves and their length. This allows in every particular case and for a part to get required depth of hardened layer of required with of hardened strip at maximum efficiency.
EFFECT: higher wear resistance.
