FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention represents a protective device of matrix cascade frequency converter (MCFC) of direct type with high frequency pulse width modulation (PWM); each cascade of the converter is designed as per three-phase bridge circuit and in its each branch monitoring keys of IGBT-modules with double-conductivity are used. In comparison with the prototype the claimed device is characterized by a more flexible process of the implemented protection thus ensuring the technical result lying in essential improvement of MCFC operability at occurrence of emergencies. In case of emergency the protection device in one of cascades ensures permanent operation of its branches at the monitoring keys of IGBT-modules, thus shunting its and shutoff of the emergency cascade from the power supply source. At that the remaining cascades continue functioning in the previous mode thus maintaining operability of MCFC as a whole.
EFFECT: protective device is developed and manufactured as a separate structure with two protection units for installation in the prototype model of the matrix cascade frequency converter intended for feeding of the high-voltage alternating-current main motor.
