ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUE FOR FREIBERG DISEASE STAGES Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC A61B8/00

Abstract RU 2537891 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves the multi-position ultrasonic examination of an affected segment of an extremity. The most specific stages of the disease are detected: when detecting a normal shape disturbance in an involved metatarsophalangeal articulation manifested by a mutual articular surface mismatch, a first stage of the disease is stated. If observing a head deformity and regular sphere loss, a height reduction by 1.0-1.5mm and a joint space enlargement by 1.0-1.5mm as compared to the healthy articulation, a second stage of the disease is stated. A plantar dislocation of the head of metatarsal by 30-45 degrees in relation to a metaphysis along the metaepiphysial cartilage provides diagnosing a third stage of the disease. A fourth stage of the disease is diagnosed by a lateral increase of the head and the metaphysic of the metatarsal by 1-3mm by marginal metaepiphysial spreading with a longitudinal size of the head reduced as compared to the healthy extremity by 1-1.5mm, a thickening of the soft joint tissues by 2-3mm. A fifth stage of the disease is diagnosed if observing a persistent pronounced deformity of the head, irregular contours, a high echogenicity, a non-uniform structure and deformity of epiphysis of a proximal phalanx with a non-uniform joint space of more than 3mm.

EFFECT: technique enables higher information value of the diagnostic procedure by detecting the most specific ultrasonic features of each stage of Freiberg disease.
