FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: described is an aspiration system subjacent folds of the glottal aperture and comprising a tracheal tube (10) having a vent opening, a cuff inflation opening (14) and an aspiration opening (16); the system can be applicable to reduce ventilator-associated (or -caused) pneumonia cases. The aspiration opening is connected to the tracheal space above a cuff (22) wherein the discharge is collected. The aspiration opening is equipped with a valve (36) on a proximal end to attach to a vacuum source. The valve is configured to interrupt the vacuum supply onto the aspiration opening so that to make the washing fluid flow to replace the vacuum and to re-set the connection to the vacuum source once the washing cycle is completed. The washing fluid keeps the aspiration opening open and can contain drug substances and mucolytics improving or promoting the recovery and changing the mucosal properties to facilitate the discharge removal.
EFFECT: user can easily alternate aspiration and the fluid irrigation through the aspiration opening more than once, i.e. the user can give an impulse to the main for relieving, separating and removing the discharge and deposits which can block or occlude the aspiration opening either partially or completely.
