FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing uranium dioxide in the form of spherical and irregularly shaped grains. The method includes dissolving, with intense stirring, uranium oxide UO3 or UO2(NO3)2×6H2O in an organic acid, preferably ascorbic acid, treating the obtained ascorbic-hydroxy-uranium sol and heat treatment of the obtained gel at 550°C and heating rate of 5°C/min in an air medium until U3O8 forms, after which the obtained oxide is reduced in a hydrogen and/or argon atmosphere, preferably a hydrogen atmosphere, at 1100°C until formation of uranium dioxide in the form of spherical or irregularly shaped grains.
EFFECT: invention simplifies the process and reduces the time of producing uranium oxide and also reduces costs.
