FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: alkali-earth metal fluoride crystals are obtained from a molten mixture containing a sodium or potassium fluoride admixture and additionally a lanthanum fluoride additive in weight ratio of the lanthanum fluoride additive to the alkali metal fluoride admixture of 0.2-0.3 and concentration of lanthanum fluoride of not more than 1 mol %.
EFFECT: high transmission of alkali-earth metal fluorides near the boundary of vacuum ultraviolet region in both normal operating conditions and in high-density ionising radiation fields, as well as radiation resistance of the crystals.
