SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication systems. Disclosed is a method of managing overload in a network node 20 of a communication network using a distributed queue system for transmitting data units. Said network node 20 has a priority queue (PQ) 40 for protocol data units (PDU) 50, 50a-n, in accordance with a constant retransmission protocol. The method comprises detecting 110 a state indicating overload and, in response, handling 120 content of the PDU 50, 50a-n in the PQ 40. A network node (20) and a computer-readable medium are also disclosed.

EFFECT: fewer retransmissions.
