FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing high-viscosity index base oils via selective solvent purification of fractions of a vacuum distillate and asphalt-free tar oil from resins and asphaltenes, followed by hydroforming at 300-380°C, volume rate of feeding material of not more than 2 h-1, partial pressure of hydrogen of 24-35 kgf/cm2 in the presence of a catalyst which contains nickel, tungsten and/or molybdenum compounds, followed by solvent deparaffination of the stabilised hydroforming product. Hydroforming is carried out by feeding raffinates having initial boiling point of no lower than 340°C, or mixtures of raffinates with stabilised hydroforming products thereof, taken in ratio of 1.00:0.05-1.00:0.20. Hydroforming is carried out with linear speed of the stream of gaseous raw material of not more than 0.35 m/s, ratio of the hydrogen-containing gas to the raw material of not more than 350 nm3/m3, content of hydrogen sulphide in the hydrogen-containing gas at the reactor input of not more than 0.1 vol. %, preferably not more than 0.05 vol. %, followed by treatment of the gas-product mixture of the hydroforming process.
