FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method includes irradiating an analysed object by scanning the object with a narrow radiation beam and detecting X-ray photons transmitted through the object, wherein the size and shape of the radiation beam is defined depending on the maximum allowable level of scattered radiation picked up by a detector, and the maximum irradiation time of each image element, while protecting components of the detector from the scattered radiation, and detection of forward radiation photons is carried out using a detector which consists of at least one row (line), formed from assemblies of a scintillator-silicon micropixel avalanche photodetector, detecting light flashes from separate photons and generating electrical pulses of a given shape with an amplitude which is proportional to the intensity of the light flash, counting the number of pulses with an amplitude greater than a given value.
EFFECT: simultaneously obtaining an image of an object in different radiation energies with separate counting of the number of detected photons in different energy ranges, which enables to solve the task of determining the effective atomic number of a substance or determining elementary composition of an illuminated object, higher definition of the image of components of the object, faster and more efficient detection compared to existing counterparts.
