FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device comprises the following units: obtaining, indication, comparison, determination. The obtaining unit is designed with a possibility to obtain these images which have the first data corresponding to the document placed on the table for documents of the reading device, and the second data corresponding to the white surface of the tabletop for documents. The indication unit indicates each of the signal values corresponding to multiple types of optical characteristics for each pixel of data of the image. The unit of comparison compares to each other the signal values which correspond to two types from multiple types of optical characteristics for target pixel, and the signal values are indicated by the indication unit. The determination unit determines on the basis of comparison executed by the comparison unit, whether the target pixel corresponds to the first or the second data.
EFFECT: improvement of accuracy of detection of the document area.
