SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to compositions to be used for packaging and containers. The described method of coating application to containers or packages, comprising: a) preparing a latex emulsion by a method comprising i) mixing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component and a stabiliser comprising a strong acid, in a carrier to form a monomer emulsion, the strong acid is an acid with a dissociation constant in an aqueous solution, pK less than 4, where the stabilise is present in the amount from about 0.1% to 2.0% by weight of the polymeric solid, the strong acid is selected from a group comprising dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid, dinonylnaphthalene sulphonic acid, dinonylnaphthylenedisulphonic acid, bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulphosuccinic acid; and ii) reacting the monomer emulsion with an initiator to form the latex emulsion; b) reacting the latex emulsion with a neutraliser to form a coating composition; and c) applying the coating composition to a can or packaging. The can or packaging coated using the above method. The coating composition prepared by a method comprising: a) preparing a latex emulsion by a method comprising i) mixing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component and a stabiliser comprising a strong acid, in a carrier to form a monomer emulsion, the strong acid is an acid with a dissociation constant in an aqueous solution, pK less than 4, where the stabiliser is present in the amount from about 0.1% to 2.0% by weight of the polymeric solid, the strong acid is selected from a group comprising dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid, dinonylnaphthalene sulphonic acid, dinonylnaphthylenedisulphonic acid, bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulphosuccinic acid; and ii) reacting the monomer emulsion with an initiator to form the latex emulsion; b) reacting the latex emulsion with a neutraliser to form a coating composition. A can or packaging coated by the above composition.
EFFECT: can or packaging coating compositions that are not water sensitive, have good blush resistance and retortability.
