FIELD: coating compositions.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coating composition for food and beverage packaging that imparts favourable odour scalping characteristics while avoiding the use of materials that are undesirable to consumers. The coating composition for food and beverage packaging contains a hydroxyphenyl-functional polymer, where the hydroxyphenyl-functional polymer is poly(hydroxystyrene), where poly(hydroxystyrene) is present in an amount of 0.1-10 wt.% of the coating composition, (meth)acrylic latex polymer, where the latex polymer is present in an amount of 40-70 wt.% of the coating composition, and a cross-linking agent, where the cross-linking agent is present in an amount of 1-10 wt.% of coating composition. The composition may contain one or more solvents, a dispersant, a lubricant and/or one or more pigments. Methods for preparing substrates coated with the composition and a substrate coated with the composition are also described.
EFFECT: providing a coating composition that does not contain or essentially does not contain bisphenol A or other bisphenols and does not affect the taste of a food product or drink inside a coated container.
