SUBSTANCE: invention provides a water-based coating system which can be used to form durable, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant protective barriers on a wide range of substrates. The coating system is particularly effective for protecting metal-containing substrates, such as intermodal containers, from corrosion. The invention provides water-based primer compositions used to form priming coats and outer coats on substrates. The primer includes one or more chlorinated resins for protection from corrosion. Said polymers not only provide excellent protection from corrosion, but also exhibit excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrate materials. The system also includes outer coat compositions for improving compatibility and adhesion to the primer and for ensuring better application.

EFFECT: invention provides durability, corrosion resistance, adhesion, resistance to bubble formation, peeling and cracking resistance of the coating.
