SUBSTANCE: invention relates to information input devices. The apparatus includes a user input unit, a processor, memory including a computer program code to enable the apparatus to: provide a user selectable part of the user input unit; configure the apparatus in either a first state or a second state wherein, in the first state the user selectable part is associated with a first function, having a first characteristic, so that the first function is performed in response to activation of the user selectable part and in the second state the user selectable part is not associated with the first function so that the first function is not performed in response to the activation of the user selectable part; and configure the apparatus to control the tactile quality of the user selectable part with respect to the rest of the user input unit so that the user selectable part is provided with a first tactile quality when the apparatus is in the first state and a second tactile quality when the apparatus is in the second state.
EFFECT: reduced probability of accidental activation of the user selectable part.
