SUBSTANCE: invention relates to acoustic means of determining information on direction. The device is designed to obtain information on direction from a plurality of microphone signals, wherein different effective scanning directions of the microphones are associated with the microphone signals. The device comprises a combination unit which is configured to obtain a value of the amplitude of the microphone signal and combining units of information on direction describing the effective scanning direction of the microphones, wherein an unit of information on direction describing a given effective scanning direction of a microphone is weighed depending on the value of the amplitude of the microphone signal associated with the given effective scanning direction of the microphone to obtain information on direction. An unit of information on direction describing a given effective scanning direction of a microphone is a vector pointing in the effective scanning direction of the microphone, and the combination unit is designed for a corresponding linear combination of units of information on direction weighed depending on amplitude values corresponding to a given frequency-time cell, and wherein units of information on direction are independent of frequency-time cells. The microphones are nondirectional and a shielding object is placed between the microphones.
