SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of generating a description of a sound field. Generating at least one description of the sound field indicating a sound field relative to at least one reference location. Metadata associated with spatial information of the sound field are generated. Said at least one description of the sound field and metadata constitute an improved description of the sound field. Generation of said at least one sound field description comprises a step of generating scattering information for a plurality of frequency bins of a time frame of a sound field, and wherein metadata generation comprises a step of generating distance information for a frequency bin only when scattering degree value for frequency bin is lower than scattering degree threshold value, or wherein generation of metadata comprises a step of generating metadata distances different from a predetermined value, only when the scattering degree value for the frequency bin is less than the threshold value of the scattering degree.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of quality of generated sound field.
