FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: electrolysis cell comprises carbon anodes with vertical openings and a cathode assembly with a layer of liquid aluminium at the bottom, wherein the inner surface of each anode opening is protected by an alumina tube, whose height is greater than that of the anode, wherein the ratio of said heights satisfies the ratio h:H=(1.05-l.15):1, where: h is the height of the alumina tube; H is the height of the anode and the number of openings in the anode is not less than one.

EFFECT: low specific consumption of electrical power by the electrolysis cell with a baked anode and avoiding the risk of contamination of the aluminium produced by the electrolysis cell by impurities when the alumina tube dissolves in the electrolyte.
