FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining para-cymol from sulphur-containing initial material, which contains at least one pinene, present in gas phase, which includes catalytic conversion of pinene into para-cymol at temperature, constituting from 177 to 350°C, in presence of zeolite of Y-faujasite type, applied as catalyst. Non-purified sulphate turpentine, extracted from wood cellulose, can be used as sulphur-containing initial material.
EFFECT: possibility to use non-purified sulphur-containing material as raw material, increase pinen conversion degree in fact to 100% with para-cymol output constituting 80-90%.
