SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel carboxylate compound of general formula wherein R is an alkyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms. The invention relates to a perfume composition, which contains a carboxylate compound of general formula (1), as well as a method of producing a carboxylate compound of general formula (1), which includes reacting 2,2-dimethyl-3-methylene-bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane of formula with carbon monoxide and then with an alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the presence of hydrogen fluoride.

EFFECT: disclosed novel carboxylate compound is useful as a blending perfume raw material and has a fresh pine-like odour.
